Creative Teaching and Facilitation

I love teaching and learning through the arts and metaphor, as a way to invite the brain to discover ideas, interpretations and meaning beyond the obvious or literal. Here is a sample of some of the workshops and tools I have developed and use as an educator and facilitator.

I offer professional learning experiences on a wide range of topics in Jewish education, including Jewish creative sensibilities, learning design, visionary education, sparking creativity in leadership, the history and future of Jewish education, and more.

  • Kintsugi Beit Midrash

    Adapting the ancient Japanese practice of golden repair and pairing it with reflection on curated Jewish texts, kintsugi can be a powerful metaphor to explore managing brokenness, imperfection, resistance to change, and the power to create anew.

    Building on a decade of research and experimentation in teaching Jewish creative practice, I offer a variety of approaches to strengthening creative habits in Jewish educational design, teaching and leadership.

    Inspired by the collection of Aramaic incantation bowls at Israel’s National Library, we explore the words and symbols that give us strength and courage and reclaim a centurles-old art form to create our own amulets.

    Dreams for the future are predicated on an understanding of the past and present . Drawing from courses I offer at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, I guide educators and stakeholders in imagining how they might shape the Jewish educational future.
